WWE Heat Report: 5/10/03
   By: RingInsider.com on May 12, 2003
Heat Report for 5/11/2003.

Matches taped on 5/5 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Your Announcers are Jonathan Coachman and Al Snow.

Pyros go, Coach and Al welcome us in and quickly hype tonight’s Main Event-later on, making an extremely rare appearance on Heat, Living Legend Chris Jericho will go one on one with The Hurricane. We get to work…

1st Match: Victoria, with Steven Richards, vs. Jacqueline. Referee is Charles Robinson.

Decent heat for the Wacko Ones, OK pop for Jackie. Bell rings, lockup is teased, Victoria opts for the cheap knee to the got, follows up with a forearm to the back of the neck to send Jackie to her knees. Victoria brings Jackie up, slams her right back down, drops the elbow, goes for the quick cover, just gets 2. Both women up, Victoria scores with another pair of kneelifts before shoving Jackie into a corner. Victoria gets in a trio of shoulders to the gut, ref issues a warning, Victoria backs off then fires off a pair of forearms to the face. Victoria brings Jackie out, scores with a nice snap suplex-no cover, Victoria exits to the apron, springboards over the top rope, Jackie rolls clear, Victoria goes butt-first to canvas. Both women up quickly, Jackie goes behind, gets a roll-up for 2. Both women again up, Victoria connects with a clothesline, Jackie down. Victoria brings her up, goes for the whip, scores with a powerslam on the rebound, Jackie down for 2. Victoria freaks out, goes for the blatant choke, quickly gets warned off by ref. Victoria brings Jackie up, another whip follows, Jackie scores with a headscissors takedown as she rebounds. Both women up quickly, Jackie gets a pair of knockdowns with forearms to the face, Victoria is hauled up at ropes, Jackie goes for the whip, Victoria gets pancaked as she rebounds. Both women up rather slowly, Jackie in with kicks to the gut that send Victoria through the ropes to the outside. Jackie follows, Steven attempts to run interference, is quickly dispatched with a forearm to the face. Jackie rolls Victoria in, ascends apron, Victoria approaches, takes a shoulder to the gut, doubling her over. Jackie goes for the sunset flip over the top, Victoria holds the ropes, Steven then grabs her arms to help Victoria keep Jackie’s shoulders pinned to the canvas, ref does NOT see it, counts the 1-2-3.

Winner: Victoria.

During the match Al spent a lot of time ribbing Coach about being rather forcibly relieved of his announce duties on Raw by that show’s new co-General Manager, Stone Cold Steve Austin. First break.

Burn of the Night: Last Monday Raw co-GM Eric Bischoff fired his Chief of Staff Sean Morley. In what will likely prove to be a rare display of solidarity, his partner Stone Cold wholeheartedly agreed to the termination.

Back, Steven and Victoria are still in the ring…

2nd Match: Maven vs. Steven Richards, with Victoria. Referee is Chad Patton.

Very nice pop for the Tough Enough 1 champ as he makes his way to the down. Pre-match we get footage from the Raw of 2 weeks past. Steven, Victoria and the 3 Minute Warning crew came to the ring to express their displeasure at Bill Goldberg’s presence in WWE-however only Steven had the guts (or lack of sense) to actually enter, and was quickly laid out with the spear.

Back to action-bell rings, circling into a lockup, Maven quickly scores with a scoop and a slam, Steven down and up in a corner. Wacko one whines and kicks the ropes as Maven looks on in amusement, Steven issues a cissy-slap to the chest in vexation, another one to the face follows, Maven fires back a slap of the non-sissified variety, Steven goes down like the proverbial sack of rutabagas. Steven nurses his near-crippling injuries in a corner, ref keeps Maven from continuing his vicious assault, Steven gets to his feet, shoves the ref aside, goes for a quick kick, Maven catches the boot, drops to canvas, rolls Steven up for 2. Both men up, Maven scores with an armdrag, Steven down, Maven holds on, works an armbar. Steven somersaults through, gets to his feet, goes to grab a handful of hair-not much luck… (at this point Al logically observes that Steven should instead go for the eyebrows). Steven looks to Victoria for advice, falls backward to canvas, attempts a takedown, Maven maintains hold of the arm, rolls through, again works an armdrag back into the armbar. Steven gets to his feet, Maven continues to work the arm, Steven manages a reversal, Maven quickly does likewise, Steven drops to canvas, gets in the ol’ poke to the eye, grabs a handful of trunks, sends Maven face first into 2nd turnbuckle. Maven staggered, Steven sends him to canvas with a sharp chop to the chest. Maven attempts to get to his feet, Steven puts a stop to that with an elbow to the back of the neck. Maven fires off a kneeling punch to the gut, Steven counters with a knee to the gut, brings Maven up, sets for the bellowing suplex-opts for a neckbreaker at the last moment, Maven down for 2. Steven to feet, Maven to knees, Steven gets in a quick kick, Maven drops to canvas. Maven tries to hold Steven off with a kick, no luck, Steven gets in a boot to the gut before bringing Maven to his feet. Steven scores with a snapmare into a full nelson into the Rat Trap (camel clutch variant), Maven slowly powers up, gets to his feet, fires off elbows to the face, hold is broken. Maven drops to his back, sends Steven to canvas with a pair of boots to the face. Steven up first, he goes to bring Maven up, takes a jawbreaker. Both men up slowly, Maven fires off a pair of punches, Steven counters with a kick to the gut, Maven to knees. Steven goes off ropes, Maven gets to his feet, sends Steven down with a forearm as he rebounds. Steven quickly up, another knockdown forearm follows, Steven won’t stay down, Maven connects with a standing dropkick, Steven down and RIGHT back up at ropes. Maven whips him to opposite, scores with the back body drop as he rebounds. Maven hauls Steven to feet at ropes, tries for another whip, reversed, Maven to ropes, Steven sets for the back body drop, Maven leapfrogs and goes off opposite ropes, Steven turns to face, Maven scores with the spinning heel kick, Steven down for 2. Maven getting frustrated, Steven crawls to corner, gets to feet, Maven joins him, ascends 2nd turnbuckle, gets in a 5-count of punches before Steven goes for the running powerbomb. Maven keeps his leverage and blocks, lands on his feet, Steven ducks under a clothesline, scores with a superkick that should have Shawn Michaels hanging his head in shame, both men down. Victoria urges Steven to go for the pin, he instead hauls Maven up into a seated position on a top turnbuckle and sets for a superplex. For whatever reason Jackie runs down, tosses Victoria into a ring post then rolls her into the ring. Jackie ascends apron, Steven breaks off from Maven to confront her, Jackie grabs a handful of hair and sends Steven face first into top rope. Ref shoos Victoria out, Steven staggers, Maven gets to his feet up top, scores with the missile dropkick, Steven down for all 3. Pretty damn good match!

Winner: Maven.

Coach speculates Jackie may have the hots for her former TE1 trainee. Hype for Y2J/Superhero precedes a break.

Coach and Al go into Raw recap mode. Last week’s show saw the second episode of ‘Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel’-his guest was Kevin Nash, who spent VERY little time talking and a WHOLE LOT of time brawling with the man he’ll be challenging for the World Championship at next Sunday’s Judgment Day PPV, HHH. Afterward Stone Cold, citing Chris as the instigator of the fracas, sentenced him to a match with Big Kev on tomorrow night’s Raw. Break.

Slam of the Week: After getting a win over Tommy Dreamer and Spike Dudley in their first WWE match last Monday, René Dupree and Sylvan Grenier went for the textbook beatdown. Save was made by the frequently at-odds team of Test and Scott Steiner-seems they may have found a common foe.

We return to the ring…

3rd Match: Chris Nowinski, with plexiglass face protector, vs. Mark Bartolucci. Referee is Jack Doan.

Mark already in the ring, real good heat for Mr. Harvard, who cuts a nice ‘snotty rich brat’ pre-match promo (Mark should be honored to be facing a for-real WWE Superstar, he’ll be joining the fans in attendance at the box factory tomorrow morning…Box Factory? Sounds like a good name for an Alice in Chains cover band).

Anyways, bell rings, minuscule bit of circling precedes a lockup, Chris goes behind and applies a hammerlock. He follows up with classic Greco-Roman kicks to the buttock region, then mocks Mark’s attempts to elbow out with b****-slaps to the back of the head. Mark wriggles free, drops to the canvas, takes Chris down with an armdrag. Both men up quickly, Mark immediately assumes the ‘fiery fan favorite’ stance so eloquently described by Mick Foley in his first book, Chris immediately retreats into a corner, then goes into the ‘OK, my bad, my opponent is indeed a worthy adversary’ routine before clotheslining Mark out of his boots and covering for 2. Chris gets to his feet and lays in kicks as Mark retreats into a corner, boot choke follows, drawing a warning from the ref. Chris gets in a pair of straight punches, Mark gets to his feet, fires off a pair of punches to the gut and forearms to the face. Chris gets whipped into a corner, Mark charges in, attempts dropkick, Chris sidesteps, Mark goes down hard in the corner-looked nasty. Mark staggers up STRAIGHT into a spinebuster, Chris covers and gets the 3-count in an unusually short squash.

Winner: Chris Nowinski.

We cut backstage-Terri is ready to do an interview, appears the interviewee hasn’t shown yet. Hurricane flies in under the radar, excuses his tardiness by citing his crime-fighting responsibilities. Terri wants to talk about his upcoming match, Hurricane’s sure he’ll defeat Dr. Doom in short order-Terri politely informs him his opponent of the evening is actually Chris Jericho. Whatever, Y2J, Doc, he plans on winning regardless. Hurricane attempts to take to the air, inadvertently grabs a handful of Terri’s chest-he instead walks off awkwardly after covering himself with his cape. Break.

Coach and Al return for more Raw recap. Last Monday’s Main Event was to see Bill Goldberg, in his first Raw match, go one on one with Christian. Match ended up being a no go when Rosey, Jamal and Rico interjected themselves on Christian’s behalf-only to be unceremoniously squashed. Christian got in one cheap chair shot before bailing through the crowd, Bill tried to call him back-when interrupted by Stone Cold, who was ready to tap the kegs for a beer bash that he’d previewed earlier. Things looked about to get ugly until the Rattler asserted his authority as co-GM and suggested the following week Goldberg get his shot at Christian in a no-DQ, steel cage match. Bill happily agreed, show ended with he and Stone Cold hoisting the brews with a phalanx of fans. Break.

We return for our Main Event…

4th Match: Chris Jericho vs. The Hurricane. Referee is legendary bastion of fair play and good sportsmanship Nick Patrick.

Big pops for both (we’re in Canada, remember). Pre-match Hurricane gives his mask to a scared-looking kid at ringside. Bell rings, Hurricane offers a handshake after a bit of circling-Chris complains to Nick, who’s all ‘shut up and wrestle, doofus.’ More circling, we FINALLY go to a lockup, Chris quickly goes to work on the arm. Hurricane somersaults through the armbar, goes for the reversal, Chris quickly tries for a clothesline, Hurricane ducks under, forearm to the face sends Chris down. More complaining to Nick as Chris gets to his feet, Hurricane takes a sissy-shove to the chest and responds with forearms to the face of the yappy Canuck. Chris to ropes, Hurricane tries for a whip, reversed, Hurricane connects with a clothesline as he rebounds, both men down and up quickly. Hurricane scores with a forearm to the face, Chris tries to crawl toward a corner, Hurricane attempts another whip, again reversed, Hurricane goes off ropes, somersaults under Chris as he leapfrogs, both men turn to face, Chris charges, gets tossed over the top rope to the outside. Chris attempts to get to his feet, Hurricane goes off ropes, scores with a picture-perfect hilo, both men down outside. Hurricane gets to his feet first, Chris gets rolled into the ring, Hurricane follows as Chris frantically begs for mercy in the corner.

(Commentary: Pretty damn fine Nature Boy impersonation-wonder if later on Hurricane will do his rendition of the ‘Flair Flop’? Haven’t seen him do that for quite a while.)

Sorry for the digression. Hurricane stalks his prey, Nick goes to find out just what the hell’s up with Chris, gets grabbed and used a shield. Hurricane approaches, pulls Nick aside, ascends 2nd turnbuckle, can’t even get in one punch before Chris picks him up and drops him face first on top rope. Hurricane staggered, Chris looks to lock in a sleeper-then thinks better of using a hold frequently used by a certain WWE star and slams Hurricane back first to the canvas-gets a 2 count.

(Commentary: Sign in crowd-‘PORK’. Friggin’ Canadians man…)

Chris gets to his feet, hauls Hurricane up, sends him right back to canvas with a back suplex, takes a stroll before going for the lackadaisical cover, just gets 2. Chris again bitches at Nick, gets to his feet, attempts to remove a turnbuckle pad, Nick shoves him aside and checks to see if the pad’s still secure-while behind his back Chris unravels a length of tape from around his wrist, then uses it to choke Hurricane. Nick turns, Chris is forced to break off the choke and has his wrist tape confiscated as Hurricane is down by the ropes. Chris hauls him up, scores with a snapmare into a rear chinlock, Hurricane gets to his feet, elbows out, goes off ropes, ducks under a kick, schoolboy roll-up gets 2. Both men get to their feet, face off, charge, Chris gets the better of this exchange, Hurricane goes down to a clothesline. Chris takes a pose break before hauling Hurricane to his feet, Superhero fires off punches to the gut, Chris counters with a rake of the face that draws a warning from Nick. Hurricane to ropes, Chris whips him off opposite, tries for what looks like a hiptoss, Hurricane counters with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors, both men down and up slowly. Hurricane scores with a flying clothesline, Chris down and up, Hurricane connects with one more, same result, Chris to ropes, Hurricane attempts whip, Chris puts on the brakes, tries for a back suplex, Hurricane floats over, lands on his feet behind Chris, scores with a neckbreaker, Chris down for 2. Hurricane goes to a corner, calls for finisher, Chris gets to his feet, ducks under the Shining Wizard, counters with a running bulldog, Hurricane down. Chris goes for the lionsault, Hurricane rolls clear, Chris scouts it, lands on his feet, quickly sends Hurricane to canvas with a double-leg takedown. Chris attempts to lock in the Walls of Jericho, Hurricane counters with a small package, gets 2! Both men up, Hurricane tries for what looks like a headscissors takedown, Chris turns it into a powerbomb, goes for the cover, just 2 pal! Chris gets to his feet, ONCE AGAIN bitches at my man Nick as Hurricane staggers to a corner. Chris charges, Hurricane sidesteps, Chris goes hard into corner, Hurricane sets, Chris staggers into the chokeslam-and it works! Chris is down, Hurricane covers, 1, 2…Chris gets his foot on the ropes at 2.93. Hurricane gets to his feet, ascends top turnbuckle, Chris up, Hurricane flies, cross body block connects, Chris rolls through, grabs the legs, locks in the Walls of Jericho in the center of the ring, Hurricane has no choice but to tap out.

Winner: Chris Jericho.

Coach and Al quickly hype tomorrow night’s Raw to end the show.

Short form match results (all victories by pinfall unless otherwise noted):

1. Victoria defeated Jacqueline.

2. Maven defeated Steven Richards.

3. Chris Nowinski defeated Mark Bartolucci.

4. Chris Jericho defeated The Hurricane, submission.
