WWE Raw Results: 6/9/03
   By: RingInsider.com on June 10, 2003
Raw Recap for 6/9/2003.

Live from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida.

Your Announcers are Jim Ross and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.

We start out backstage. Raw co-General Manager Stone Cold Steve Austin is watching something on a monitor when World Champion HHH enters. Game demands Stone Cold give him the name of the man he’s invited to officiate his ‘Hell in a Cell’ match with Kevin Nash at next Sunday’s Bad Blood PPV. No luck, he’ll find out later with the rest of us. Rattler sends Hunter on his way with a cheery, ‘Have a nice day!’

Let’s do this…

Pyros go, J.R. and he King welcome us in-we see the ‘Hell in a Cell’ structure is hanging above the ring, reason is unknown by our announcers.

First match: Bill Goldberg vs. Rosey. Bill out first as we get video from last Monday-Chris Jericho avoided taking the Spear by dragging referee Charles Robinson into Goldberg’s path. Rosey out next, video from 6 weeks past rolls, we see Goldberg spearing Rosey through a guard barrier. As the bell rings Jericho’’s music hits-Y2J takes a seat atop the ramp. Match finally begins, Rosey got in a rather shocking amount of offense before being clotheslined out of the ring. Chris runs into the ring, misses badly with a chair shot, Goldberg’s attempt at the Spear is thwarted when Rosey re-enters. Y2J bails, Rosey takes the Spear and the Jackhammer, 1-2-3.

J.R. and the King inform us a poll is up at www.WWE.com where we can make our guesses as to the identity of the mystery ref. Choices are Stone Cold, Mick Foley, Shane McMahon, Terry Funk (YES!) or The Rock.

Results later on, we go to break.

Straight back to action: Co-holder of the World Tag Team Championships Rob Van Dam goes one on one with René Dupree. Pre-match we get video from last week-Stone Cold took Rob’s partner Kane to task for losing to René’s partner, the equally green Sylvan Grenier. Rattler asked what happened to the guy who kicked his butt in a ‘First Blood’ match a few years ago and practically begged for a chokeslam. Kane dejectedly refused the request, and the infuriated Austin laid him out with a Stunner. More video follows, we see Sylvan got the win over Kane after connecting with a low blow behind the referee’s back.

Oh yeah, the match. Solid enough affair, Rob hit all his spots (excepting the 5 Star, which René surprisingly rolled clear of) and got the win with a roll-up out of a leg scissors takedown. Post-match Sylvan joins his partner for a 2 on 1 beatdown-NO save by Kane. René and Sylvan exit and we go to break.

When we return Austin and his co-GM Eric Bischoff confer about the actual competitions to take place during their ‘Redneck Triathlon’, scheduled for Bad Blood. Looks like Eric has brought his ‘Raw Roulette’ wheel out of mothballs-events include stuff like bull riding, pig pen fun, cow tipping and line dancing. The co-GM’s agree to spin the wheel to determine the first event-pointer lands on ‘pie eating’. Eric seems happy, thinks he can hold his own in a competition involving the consumption of baked goods. Austin feels the competition should instead involve the type of ‘pie’ Rocky likes to make reference to. Challenge is accepted. OK. Eric then asks for the straight dope on Austin’s pick for the mystery ref, guesses it’s Mick Foley. Rattler keeps mum.

J.R. and the King remind us that WWE Hall of Famer ‘Classy’ Freddie Blassie passed away last Monday. We get video of Freddie’s last Raw appearance and excerpts from the excellent tribute piece that aired last Saturday on Confidential. Still photo of the Classy One fills the screen as we go to break.

WWE Rewind: From last Monday, Ivory, Trish Stratus and Jacqueline defeated Molly Holly, Victoria and Women’s Champion Jazz in a 6-woman tag match. Ivory pulled out the win for her team, pinning the champ after a facebuster.

We go backstage, where a VERY pissed off RVD chastises Kane for not coming to his aid during the earlier beatdown. No response from Big Red, Rob wonders if perhaps Stone Cold was right about him. Kane wordlessly turns and exits.

Next match: Trish Stratus and Ivory vs. Jazz and Victoria, latter team is accompanied by Theodore Long. Pre-match Theo tries to cut one of his standard promos, Jazz interrupts and in no uncertain terms informs Ivory that her win last week was just a fluke. Brawl breaks out, bell rings, really good fast paced match, Ivory gets the win for her team, pinning Jazz with an inside cradle out of a countered STF.

We cut backstage-Chris Jericho informs Intercontinental Champion Christian that he’s hitting the road. Christian begs Y2J to stick around for his upcoming ‘spinaroonie contest’ with Booker T. Chris politely defers, he feels if he hangs around he could once again be forced to humiliate Goldberg. Christian bids his occasional tag partner a good evening. Break

On returning we see members of the Miami Dolphins are in the house. Video from last weekends U.K.-only Insurrextion PPV follows.

Back to work: Scott Steiner, with Stacy Keibler, makes his way to the ring. Test’s music hits, and Stacy’s estranged personal and business associate joins J.R. and the King as Scott’s actual opponent, Lance Storm, runs into the ring from the crowd. Bell rings, Test uses a goofy gravelly voice to put himself over as Lance and Big Poppa engage in a decent enough match. Late in Test ran down to the ring and attempted to drag Stacy off. Scott made the save, then got the win over Lance with the Novocain.

Post-match things get real ugly. Test lays Big Poppa out with a chair, then turns his attention to Stacy. He states if she no longer wants to be his girlfriend, no problem-but at Bad Blood he plans on making her his ‘whore’. Yeesh. Test forces a kiss on Stacy and takes his leave. Break.

Back, the HIAC structure is lowered as King fills us in on the poll results. Mick Foley won in a landslide.

Stone Cold makes his way down the ramp to officially announce the ref for Hell in a Cell-and yes, it’s the Hardcore Legend, former WWF Champion Mick Foley. Mick makes his entrance, crowd goes nuts, Rattler goes backstage as Mick enters the cell. Mick claims he jumped at the chance to get back in the cell one more time, reminds us of his past exploits inside the structure. He tries to fill us in on his recent doings when HHH appears atop the stage. Hunter reminds Mick he forced him into retirement after their HIAC match in 2000, says he’s now just a regular guy that has no business in WWE. War of words breaks out and climaxes with Hunter issuing an ultimatum: If Mick doesn’t back out of refereeing his match at Bad Blood before the end of the show a butt-kicking will surely result. HHH exits and we go to break.

Back, Ric Flair’s music hits, and the Nature Boy dances his way to the ring. Ric gets a mic-no promo, he simply summons his crony Randy Orton to the ring for our next match. Randy’s opponent The Hurricane appears atop the ramp, lights dim and when they return we see Shawn Michaels walking with the Superhero toward the ring. Bell rings, real quick match sees Randy pick up the win with a modified bulldog as Ric gets busted open while brawling with HBK at ringside. Post-match Ric and Randy try to beat down Hurricane, Shawn quickly makes the save and beats the hell out of both men. Break.

Backstage Spike Dudley advises Mick to back out of refereeing Nash vs. HHH. Mick politely thanks him for his concern and walks off. Break.

Back, we see HHH conferring with Bischoff. We get sound problems here, J.R. covers, states Hunter is promising to kick Mick’s butt unless he cancels his appearance at Bad Blood.

Back to the ring for our ‘Spinaroonie contest’. King summons Christian and Booker T to the ring. Pre-contest Book asks for a ‘Kingaroonie’, gets one-well, sort of. Contest begins, Christian goes first-very poor effort. Book tries to show us the real thing, Christian misses with a belt shot, Book kicks his butt, Christian exits as Booker vows to defeat him at Bad Blood. We get the spinaroonie, Booker exits up the ramp, Christian re-appears and lays him out with a belt shot. Break.

Burn of the Night: From the Raw episode of 2 weeks past, Chris Nowinski used his mask to help Rodney Mack get a win over Bubba Ray Dudley during the semi-weekly ‘5 Minute White Boy Challenge’.

Next match: D-Von Dudley goes one on one with Rodney Mack. D-Von is accompanied by his brother Bubba Ray, Rodney is seconded by Chris Nowinski. Theodore Long joins J.R. and the King. Bell rings, OK match with minimal interference-until the end, when Theo ran to the ring to distract referee Nick Patrick-attempt backfired, Chris took the 3D behind Nick’s back. Rodney nonetheless got the submission win with the Blackout.

We cut to Terri with Goldberg. Bill simply announces Jericho is ‘next’ when he goes down to a chair shot from behind. Camera pans right-we see Y2J running off as Goldberg glares. Break

Backstage Stone Cold looks for Mick. No luck, a worker is ordered to go find him.

After a replay of Jericho’s most recent sneak attack on Goldberg J.R. and the King go over the Bad Blood card:

1. Bill Goldberg vs. Chris Jericho
2. Booker T challenges Christian for the Intercontinental Championship
3. René Dupree and Sylvan Grenier (La Resistance) challenge Rob Van Dam and Kane for the World Tag Team Championships
4. Eric Bischoff and Stone Cold Steve Austin square off in a ‘Redneck Triathlon’
5. Test vs. Scott Steiner. Winner gets Stacy Keibler as their manager, exclusively
6. Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels in a ‘Battle of Legends’
7. Kevin Nash challenges HHH for the World Championship in ‘Hell in a Cell’

Another match is added: Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley vs. Chris Nowinski and Rodney Mack.

We return backstage-Stone Cold confers with Mick, who admits he’s feeling rather nervous about refereeing HIAC. Rattler regrets that he may have made a mistake extending his invitation, Mick is informed he has only 2 minutes left to make his decision. Final break.

Back, the cell is once again lowered. HHH enters and calls Mick out. Hardcore Legend makes his way down the ramp and states he’s decided to return to his normal, average life-next Monday, after he officiates the match at Bad Blood. As for the threatened butt-kicking: Mick announces he’s ready to face the music, right here and right now! Mick charges into the cell, DAMN spirited brawl breaks out, I honestly can’t believe how fired up Mick looked. Things turn bad for Mick when Hunter grabs a chair-cringe inducing shots to the head follow. Mick goes down, Hunter exits up the ramp-Mick revives and taunts him by counting a 1-2-3. HHH returns and Pedigrees Mick onto the chair. Good friggin’ God. Hunter walks up the ramp-Mick again taunts him with a 3-count. Hunter back in, this time accompanied by Flair and Orton. 3 on 1 beatdown FINALLY ends when HBK and Kevin Nash rather leisurely stroll down to the ring to make the save. Ric and Randy are quickly dispatched, Big Kev hits Hunter with the jackknife powerbomb, covers, Mick counts the night’s final 1-2-3 to end the show.

Short form match results (all victories by pinfall unless otherwise noted);

1. Bill Goldberg defeated Rosey.
2. Rob Van Dam defeated René Dupree.
3. Trish Stratus and Ivory defeated Jazz and Victoria.
4. Scott Steiner defeated Lance Storm.
5. Randy Orton defeated The Hurricane.
6. Rodney Mack defeated D-Von Dudley, submission.
