WWE Raw Report: 5/5/03
   By: RingInsider.com on May 06, 2003
Raw Recap for 5/5/2003.

Live from the Halifax Metro Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Your Announcers are Jonathan Coachman and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.

We start off silently with a picture of Elizabeth ‘Miss Elizabeth’ Hulette, who passed away last week at the age of 42.

Next we go to video from the closing moments of last Monday’s show-Linda McMahon, making one of her rare appearances on WWE TV, introduced Eric Bischoff to his new co-General Manager: Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Let’s do this….

Hell with the pyros, GLASS BREAKS, and Stone Cold makes his way to the ring, suitcase in hand. Our new co-GM gets on the mic and thanks Linda McMahon for his new job. He announces later on he’ll be hosting the biggest beer bash in the history of Raw. More important stuff next-he opens the suitcase and removes the retired Intercontinental Championship belt. He announces the return of the IC title, first holder will be determined in a Battle Royal at this month’s Judgment Day PPV-anyone who’s held that title in the past is free to participate. Before the Rattler can say much more his partner Eric Bischoff and Raw Chief of Staff Sean Morley join him in the ring. Eric and Stone Cold trade guarded barbs, then get down to brass tacks. Eric states he has no problem with the return of the IC title, then announces at Judgment Day Kevin Nash will challenge HHH for the World Championship-no problem from Austin. Stone Cold then announces he’s re-hired Jim Ross, and good ol’ J.R. comes to the ring. NOT cool with Bischoff, we have a sticking point. Stone Cold proposes he and Eric mix it up, with J.R.’s job on the line. Eric counters, reminds Austin Linda McMahon doesn’t want him competing in the ring. Chief Morley gets in his 2 cents, he wants to wrestle J.R. himself for the job rights-Austin quickly vetoes, he proposes a challenger of his choice take on Morley. At the announce table, King begs the right to fight for his old friend-offer accepted, he makes his way down as we go to break.

Straight back for King vs. Chief. Eric is hanging out at ringside, as are J.R. and Stone Cold. OK match, midway through King dug out the piledriver-Morley shockingly kicked out. End sees Morley going up top for the Money Shot, only to be shoved to the canvas by J.R. King then dropped a knee from the 2nd turnbuckle for the 1-2-3, J.R.’s back.

Post-match Stone Cold summons Coach to the ring and relieves him of his announce duties with a Stunner. He then leaves J.R. and the King to celebrate. Break.

Backstage, Eric bitches at Morley for losing the match and fires him. They take off in separate directions, Morley runs into Stone Cold and informs him of his termination. Austin is outraged, he and Morley go back to confront Bischoff, words are exchanged-then Stone Cold confirms that Morley is indeed canned. Eric-“You heard him!”

Back to J.R. and the King, who remind us Bill Goldberg kicked the crap out of Rosey, Jamal and Rico last week. Later on Goldberg will compete in his first Raw match-his opponent, Christian.

Cut to Test and Scott Steiner working out backstage-Stacy Keibler enters, reminds them they have a tag title match, coming up after we break.

Straight back for Test and Scott Steiner challenging Rob Van Dam and Kane for the World Tag Team Championships-former team has Stacy in their corner. Bell rings, Rob isolated early on. Kane get the tag and kicks some butt, match dissolves into chaos, hey who needs tags. End saw Test accidentally clocking Big Poppa with the Big Boot, champs quickly picked up the win to retain with their chokeslam/5 Star Frog Splash combo.

J.R. announces later on Trish Stratus will get a shot at Jazz and her Women’s Championship. Break.

When we return, we see Stone Cold adding his own personal touches to the GM’s office-we see about 30 cases of beer in the background. Bischoff enters, hijinks ensue, point is made when Austin states Eric is NOT invited to the upcoming beer bash.

Cut to Kevin Nash walking backstage-we’re informed Big Kev will be tonight’s guest for ‘Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel. Break.

Back, Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring, which is outfitted with a pair of (non-steel) chairs and various decorations-J.R. informs us next Sunday on Heat Chris will go one on one with The Hurricane. Y2J welcomes us to the second edition of his show-Canadian crowd is totally behind the Living Legend. Chris gets in some ragging on Roddy Piper, then announces he’ll be competing in the IC-title determining Battle Royal at Judgment Day. Next we get footage from last week’s Backlash PPV-Chris, World Champion HHH and Ric Flair picked up a less-than-clean win over Booker T, Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash in a 6-man tag match. We move on to footage from last Monday-Hunter only avoided taking a sledgehammer-assisted beating from Big Kev by making like the ol’ scalded dog. FINALLY Y2J invites Nash to join him in the ring, offer accepted, seems like Kev isn’t in a chatting mood, he simply tears apart the set and chases Chris around the ring.

(Commentary: Got to call it as I see it-crowd HATES Nash.)

Chris gets back on the mic and calls down his next guest-HHH. Hunter makes his way to the ring as Kev glares. Jericho hits him with a low blow then bails, slow-paced brawl breaks out, Hunter gets badly busted open as he and Kevin take their fight backstage. Refs and trainers appear to break things up, Hunter eventually makes his way outside the arena, highjacks a minivan and gets out of Dodge. Break.

Back, we get a replay of the Nash/HHH brawl.

(Commentary: J.R.: ‘This crowd is still buzzing!’ Guess the sound of snoring can be considered a buzz of sorts…)

Outside the arena Stone Cold and Y2J are surveying the mess. Austin chastises Chris for initiating the ruckus and announces he’ll be facing Nash during next Monday’s main event.

Cut to J.R. and the King, who offer a brief show summary.

Let’s try to regroup with Booker T vs. Lance Storm. Pretty good match that partially woke the crowd up, Book gets the win after the Scissors Kick.

Backstage, Sylvan Grenier and René Dupree (collectively known as Le Resistance) hit on Stacy Keibler and ask her to watch their upcoming match. Break.

Slam of the Night: From last Monday, Sylvan and René made their Raw debut with an old-school style beatdown of Scott Steiner.

Back for Sylvan Grenier and René Dupree vs. Tommy Dreamer and Spike Dudley. ECW alumni do their best to make the rookies look good, Sylvan picks up the win for his team, pinning Spike after he and René scored with a double-team flapjack. Post match beatdown of Tommy and Spike ensued, save made by Scott Steiner and Test-seems they may have found a common foe. Break.

(We get a commercial for next Saturday’s episode of Confidential-looks like we’ll be getting a piece on Miss Elizabeth.)

We return to Bischoff on his phone (apparently) with Linda McMahon bitching about Austin. Linda tells him to shut his yap, Eric promises a ‘raising of the bar’ for next week’s show.

Cut to Terri chatting with Christian about his match with Goldberg. He wants to avenge the beating Bill inflicted on his close friend The Rock at Backlash.

Cut to Trish preparing for her upcoming match. Break.

Straight back for Trish Stratus challenging Jazz for the Women’s Championship-latter is accompanied by both Theodore Long and Rodney Mack. Short messy match, end saw Victoria running down to distract the ref, Jazz then clobbered Trish with her belt to get the win and retain. Break.

Main Event: Bill Goldberg vs. Christian. After Goldberg enters the ring Rico, Jamal and Rosey appear atop the stage. Rico gets on the mic, announces Goldberg gets to run the gauntlet before he gets to Christian-Jamal first, then himself, then Rosey. That idea goes out the window quickly, all 3 members of 3 Minute Warning enter the ring and get destroyed in short order. Christian gets in a quick chair shot and bails through the crowd. Goldberg tries to call him back-when the glass again breaks and Stone Cold joins Goldberg in the ring. Austin’s ready for his beer bash-Goldberg’s not interested, he wants Christian. Austin proposes the two get it on next week-still not interested. How about in a steel cage? Goldberg smiles and agrees, show ends with he and the Rattler hoisting about 300 brews with the ring crew and a host of fans.

Short form match results (all victories by pinfall):

1. Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler defeated Sean Morley to earn the reinstatement of Jim Ross.

2. Rob Van Dam and Kane defeated Test and Scott Steiner to retain their World Tag Team Championships.

3. Booker T. defeated Lance Storm.

4. Sylvan Grenier and René Dupree defeated Spike Dudley and Tommy Dreamer.

5. Jazz defeated Trish Stratus to retain her Women’s Championship.

6. Bill Goldberg vs. Christian went to a no-contest.
