- WWE Diva Maria appeared on WFAN in New York Friday morning to promote the Tribute to the Troops show and talk about how she got into the wrestling business, and her dating life.
Related to the Troops show, Maria described Vince McMahon in glowing terms. “Vince McMahon is doing the same thing Bob Hope did. He’s a great boss,” she told hosts Craig Carton and former NFL QB Boomer Esiason. “He won’t ask you to do anything he won’t do first.”
She says she was a fan of wrestling growing up and jumped on the chance to be in the Divas search contest four years ago. When she was eliminated in the final five, Maria says she called and begged and pleaded for an opportunity to be part of WWE.
When she officially joined WWE, she started dating C.M. Punk, who shared a Chicago-area connection with Maria, but the relationship didn’t work out due to wrestling. She did not name Punk by name, but commented on their relationship. “It’s one of those things where you’re both competing for time (in wrestling and in the relationship),” she said. “Just when you go home, you don’t want to talk wrestling anymore.” She’s now dating someone out of wrestling and she wants to be with a guy who will take care of her. “Looking for someone who’s going to treat me like a lady and not like one of the boys.”
