MICK FOLEY TALKS ABOUT FIGURES, BOOKS, AND HIS FUTURE
by Steven Fernandes

Byte This – October 13, 2004
Hosts: Josh Matthews and Mark Lloyd.
Scheduled Guests: Gene Snitsky and Mick Foley

Season Premiere of Byte This starts with Josh mentioning that he just arrived from England and his arms are tired.

Talk about RAW last Monday. Marc mentions the wrestlers “auditioning” for the fans so they will choose them for Taboo Tuesday.

Talk about WWE Fantasy and Kane amassing 54 points (a record) from this week on RAW with 16 chair shots (ouch!) to Val Venis. Hosts mention Carlito Caribbean Cool being a steal at $1 mill.

Next week will be the Smackdown Casting Special for Tough Enough.

Hosts hype Smackdown magazine with Big Show on the cover and RAW magazine with Evolution on the cover.

After the break Droz will join the show, who will take part in a little word association.

Smackdown Rebound

Droz joins the show

Droz puts over the new day, new time, and new attitude of Byte This.

Thoughts about Carlito winning the US title on his debut. Droz thinks its great and more power to him but feels bad for Cena losing in his hometown.

Thoughts on Hardcore match this week on Smackdown. Droz thinks its going to be a good one. Whenever you have someone like Bob Holly and JBL, its going to be a knockdown, beat down drag out fight and he is looking forward both beat each other up. Says it will be like a PRIDE match without the gloves.

Talk about Taboo Tuesday and Chris Jericho. Time for word association

Y2J vs. Christian – Exciting

Y2J vs. Shelton – Dynamic

Y2J vs. Hurricane – High Flying

Y2J vs. Coach – Ass whooping

Y2J vs. Tomko - Painful

Hosts all bring up Rhyno as being the fans choice.

Talk about Orton vs. Flair at Taboo Tuesday. Droz would like to see it in a Steel Cage match. After all the promos they have done on each other, he would like to see them settle it in the cage.

How does one prepare for TT? Droz says the wrestlers are all professionals, they know what they are doing, and they should have an open mind and think that “I am going to wrestle somebody tonight”. He said the contenders for the IC match have an advantage because they know they will have to wrestle Jericho so they know his style etc, but Jericho doesn’t know who he will have to wrestle. Prepare like you have a match, go through your usual rituals. (Droz mentions that he used to prepare by drinking 24 cups of coffee). If you get called, you go out and have a good match. If not, there’s always next time.

Talk turns to the World Heavyweight Title match. Droz would like to see Edge get the nod. Feels it would be great for him, but doesn’t see it happening. Doesn’t think Triple H cares who he wrestles. Thinks Triple H would prefer to wrestle HBK because of their history.

Droz leaves the show.

Hosts talk more about TT and the possibility of different matches that could happen. They wonder how someone like a Shelton Benjamin will prepare for TT. Also, if Gene Snitsky will appear at TT because he will be on RAW the previous night and they hint that Kane and he could go at it then. Hosts joke that Snitsky will soon show up on a milk carton.

After the break, Mick Foley joins the show.

Video from WWE political debate.

Host hype the debate, which can be watched in its entirety on WWE.COM

Mick Foley joins the show.

Talk about the debate. Foley was glad that everyone enjoyed the debate. Mentions how the bar was set low for President Bush for the debates and that WWE borrowed from that and set the bar even lower. No one was expecting a wrestling debate and they had a good debate and had people talking.

Will he be watching the presidential debate tonight? Yes he will. When he agreed to do this show, he was hoping he wouldn’t miss the debate but found out the debate doesn’t start till 9. Feels everyone is impressed with Kerry, and Bush did a nice job too, but Kerry is in a different league when it comes to having a handle on the issues.

Caller… Does Mick collect his own wrestling figures? He has a box full of them and when he has to explain to his 3 year old that he has to keep it in the box, it doesn’t work out very well. He has a lot of action figures that are headless or missing an arm. His 3 year old doesn’t know what he does for a living. (He waiting till he’s 4 or 5 to tell him) so he thinks every dad has their own action figure.

Talk about his books. He has two autobiographies, two children books and a novel and the new children’s books so this is his sixth book. He says some people will say it’s a children’s book so how important can it be. He talks about going on record a couple of years ago and saying the failure to publish this book is the biggest disappoint of his career. When the article came out, the author put in parentheses, “in publishing”. But Mick called him up and said no in his whole career. When he left WWE, he thought it wasn’t going to be published, but when he came back, it was one of the first things he talked with Vince about putting out this book. He has read it to 10,000 kids over the last few years. He believes in this book and it’s a good story with a moral message and he also managed to make Al Snow look a little cute at the same time.

Caller… Will there be a book tour for this book? Caller liked Tietem Brown and met Foley during a book tour for that book. Mick asked how old the caller is. He said 16 so Mick said he was old enough to handle Tietem Brown, because it was dark and depressing. He thought that parents would have picked up that book thinking it was the third children’s book and find that it was a bit on the heavy side. This book is opposite, it’s more optimistic about life. The book is about the WWE superstars (and Al Snow) when they were little kids living on the same block (Wrescal Lane). This is about two stories, Dudleys do wrong, where one of the Dudley's learn a painful lesson about respecting other people’s property and Kurt’s Coaster Crisis where little Kurt learns to respect people even if they are homely and strange like how little Al Snow is.

Who illustrated the book? No disrespect to the King, who he put over as a great artist and who did the artwork for his first children’s book, but this book was done by Jill Thompson, a good friend of Mick’s, who also did the Halloween book. She has a wonderful creative imagination and putting his words into pictures. Talk about Vinnyland Castle in the book which is Vince’s theme park. She managed to turn the structure of Titan Towers into an amusement park. Also talks about the spook house of the stooges, where the little kids emerge out of Jerry Brisco’s mouth. He puts over her illustration some more.

Hosts mention the book coming out Oct. 19th.

Does he still keep in touch with Al Snow? He mentions that since he has been appearing on a lot of Indy shows lately and sees Al at almost all of them. Says Al Snow is the king of the Indy shows. Mentions that it wasn’t by design, but in the book, he made Snow the cutest character, but not in a handsome sort of way. He reads a bit from the book to give an example.

Talk about Tough Enough. Thinks Al is awesome as a trainer. Thinks WWE missed the boat on him. After two seasons, he bought in new fans, especially women, who saw Al as this nice guy but could be tough when he wants to be. Mick gives Vince credit for lot of things, especially for letting him and JBL have the debate, but on this one someone missed the boat with Al Snow. Mick doesn’t mind saying this since he isn’t officially contracted to WWE anymore.

Caller… Will he go for another title shot? Doesn’t know, the door is opened for him. Thinks it will be good for his health if he comes back once every year, jokes it would keep his weight in check. Doesn’t have any current plans. He would like to do another Wrestle Mania match. He was proud of his WM 20 match and teaming with The Rock.

Josh says Mick could be at Taboo Tuesday. What are his thoughts on TT? As soon as he hears the word ‘Taboo’, he is expecting Kay Parker to make return at age 65. He says if you got that, you got it. If you didn’t, just skip to the next question. Foley puts over TT. He says it’s hard to make PPVs look special and wonders if the nature of this PPV will interest fans into buying it. As a fan, he is interested in knowing who the fans pick to wrestle Triple H, what stipulations they pick etc etc. If it’s a success, it’s something they could do once a year.

Where can you get the book? In just about all the bookstores and also online. Once again, its comes out Oct. 19th. He will be doing a limited book tour. All the proceeds for this book is going to charity, he is building an early childhood education center in the Philippines. He is doing 4 book signings, 20th in NYC in Wall Street. 21st Borders Bookstore in Minneola (sp?) in Long Island, 22nd at Great Adventures, 24th in Champaigne, IL. Check WWE.com or Mickfoley.com.

Marc says HBK would be proud of him, doing this for charity because HBK is going to do charity work himself building churches for children in underdeveloped countries.

What’s next for Mick Foley? He is going to be helping a local congressman with his campaign. He feels he and JBL did something important with the debate. He will be doing Indy shows as well. He will be going to Germany to referee a match. If Vince or anyone else calls him and says there’s an opening on TV, he will be glad to come back. Doesn’t mean he will come running back, but he should be back on TV before long.

Josh inquires if the local politician he is helping out is Tazz, because Tazz said that he wants to run for mayor of Brooklyn and doesn’t know if he was kidding or being serious. Mick jokes that Tazz doesn’t even live there anymore and he should go to Lawler if he is running because he has some experience in that. Mick is certain that Tazz is kidding, but he encourages the superstars to get involved in politics. Says he knows Tazz since 1986 and they are tight, and he would be happy to assist him if it were for real. Marc says it’s important to inform everyone to get out and vote on Nov. 2nd to which Mick jokes that it’s not as important as going out and getting his book, which comes out this Tuesday Oct 19th. He says there are some kids who can’t vote, but that doesn’t mean they can’t put Tales from Wrescal Lane on their Christmas wish list.

Foley leaves the show.

More hype for the book, which comes out Oct. 19th.

Gene Snitsky will join the show after the break

(Break)

Promo for Taboo Tuesday.

Video from RAW recapping Kane-Snitsky-Lita feud (including the award winning Lita voiceovers)

Gene Snitsky joins the show.

Talk about his debut match. Eric picked him for the match. Everyone thought he was going be slaughtered, but he hit Kane with the chair and everyone knows what happened after that.

Talk about lack of responsibility and insincere apology. He was in the ring to do a job, and Kane got the chair in, and secondly, Lita shouldn’t have been in the ring. He did what anybody else would do.

Thoughts about Kane falling on top of Lita and what went through his mind at the time at the possibility that Lita could lose her baby. He was more concerned with his well being than for Lita. He wanted to get out of the ring and regroup.

Caller… No one on the line.

Thoughts about the ‘baby killer’ chants. They can chant whatever they want. Its unfortunate what happened but he did what he had to do. He will fight back. He’s not going to lay down for anybody. He doesn’t regret what happened again bringing up that he had to defend himself and it was Kane that fell on Lita so it wasn’t his fault (damn, WWE should trademark that catchphrase.)

Talk about the lead pipe and his attack on Kane. Talk about the Weapon of Choice match at TT. Brings up the three options he mentioned on RAW. He is going to make a name for himself at the expense of Kane.

What is looking to accomplish? He is looking to be one of the top guys in wrestling. He’s not looking just to wrestle.

More hype for his TT match. Whatever weapon is chosen, they will bash each other with it and whoever wins will be the last man standing.

Caller… No one yet again.

Which weapon would Snitsky prefer? Lead pipe obviously. But whatever weapon is chosen is fine with him.

Gene Snitsky leaves the show.

Hosts talk more about Snitsky not taking responsibility for his actions.
