Always being a very athletic person, Amy Christine Dumas says she became interested in wrestling after watching Rey Mysterio Jr. Born on April 14, 1975 in Ft. Lauderdale FL., this 5'7" 135lb. single lady states that she would someday like to have an 'action figure' made of herself.
With a background of judo and kickboxing, Angelica aka Miss Congeniality, launched her career in the spring of 1999. Appearing as Angelica at some ECW house shows, her first real exposure was at the Heat Wave PPV in July 1999. Shortly thereafter the 23 year old (1999) native of Florida entered The Funking Conservatory II wrestling school in Ocala FL before continuing her role as Danny Doring's valet.
She left the ECW in late 1999 and the rumors immediately began flying that she was going to appear in the WWF as a valet which she did in February 2000. She made her WWF debut as Lita, the valet for the Light Heavyweight Champion Essa Rios. She stayed with him for several months, which included a number of good battles against Chyna and Eddie Guerrero. By the end of May she left Essa Rios after catching him hanging out with the Godfather and the Ho's.
Within a few weeks she became associated with The Hardy Boyz, and began furthering her own solo career. Starting off by winning a Battle Royal match to decide the #1 contender to Stephanie Mac who was holding the title at that time, Lita went on to take the belt away from Steph within the next two months, and then retain it over 7 matches during the next two months before losing it to Ivory (after Edge & Christian attacked her) during a 4 Corners match that included Trish & Jacqueline. To end her eventful first year in the WWF, Lita had to fend off a determined Dean Malenko, who wanted to have a relationship with the fiery red head.
2001 was not a successful year for Lita, at least regarding the Women's Championship as she challenged only 5 times during the whole year, facing the likes of Ivory, Chyna and Trish. Unfortunately she was unable to capitalize on her chances to win the title back. One of the highlights for her career did happen during the year as she became fully recognized as a WWF "Diva" when she was featured on the cover of the special collector's edition of the WWF's "Divas 2001" Magazine!
To end the year Lita became embroiled in the friction that was beginning to occur between Matt and Jeff Hardy. The situation continued into 2002, until Lita was injured filming an episode of Dark Angel. It was believed that she only suffered a "stinger" but within weeks it was discovered that her injury was much more severe. Diagnosed with three cracks in the C6-C7 area of her vertebrae, she had to undergo surgery which has kept her out of action for the rest of 2002.
